Most new spellslingers are limited in skill or new to the theme. I'll be honest with you; it fits personalities that like to gamble. If you are ok losing to your own ways but want to see the possibility of creativity, this article is for you. Let's go.

There are plenty of other mechanics that synergize with the storm mechanic. I'm going to dive into two mechanics: cascade and discover. They are similar in function. You will be rewarded with an additional spell once you cast a spell with cascade or discover.
Why would you want to add these mechanics? They are sneaky ways to tutor spells to dig through your deck. I want you to consider them when deck building and your favorite spell. Therefore you are not waiting on spells to have the spell in hand.
Deck builders who run away from a 7 drop commander may not know other ways to setup their commander. You will see in the rest of the article how cascade and discover - dig through your library and create more value per spell.
Cascade
Flamekin Herald fits perfectly with Prismari, the Inspiration. Get two spells for one after paying 7 mana to put your commander on the battlefield but...

Approach
Let's talk optimistically. You cast Prismari, the Inspiration and he gives instants and sorceries storm. Prismari himself counts towards the storm count as one. The cascade triggers first and let's say it's an extra turn spell. The extra turn spell resolves first and then Prismari, the Inspiration resolves. Now you get to start the next turn with your commander on the battlefield with an open mana. Unfortunately, the Extra Turn spell won't have storm. However, we're talking about a Prismari commander that needs to be on the battlefield.
Remember Prismari gives storm!

Cascade triggers count towards the storm count. into the Time Vortex is great to possibly uncover desired spells within your deck that are 4 mana value or less. Think of all the rituals you might need to pull off a storm turn!

New players may not know you can fizzle out on a storm turn. I believe Cascade can prevent that because you cascade into a mana ritual or a card draw spell. Throes of Chaos essentially has flashback in the form of Retrace. This requires you to discard a land card to cast Throes of Chaos from your yard.

This suggestion is tough. If Forceful Denial has storm it can transform into an amazing Whirlwind Denial instead targeting spells. You can counter multiple spells and cascade through your library.
Lost Caverns of ixalan mechanic

I would use this to save or protect my commander - Prismari, the Inspiration. It has a 7 mana value which will be applied to discover X. Thats. a really good potential card you can cast or put into your hand. Heck you can put the next card into your hand or cast it if gets discovered.

I love big mana spells. Hit the Mother Lode can be an explosive spell with storm. You are discovering a new card and mana ramping through treasure tokens.

Many deck builders shy away from lands entering tapped. However, if they have an ability that synergizes with your theme, I'm adding it! Lands are not removed often and can be the missing piece to victory.
Summary
You don't have to just rely on the storm mechanic. Storm is literally the game ender! Prismari, the Inspiration requires deck builders to focus on the setup game to cast. Another problem players will run into is fizzling out on their storm turn. This means they didn't cast enough spells to mana ramp or draw cards to increase the count for the big play. Sometimes at these moments you don't want to "wheel" away your hand. You might need to tutor; sometimes they are out of budget. But the cascade and discover mechanic are ways to add to your storm count and dig through your deck! Now that's a two for one.
